Professor Bialek is interested in a broad set of problems that arise at the interface of physics and biology. His work is animated by the search for principles that might underlie the remarkable functional capabilities of living systems. A theorist, Bialek’s work ranges from abstract theoretical problems to the nitty gritty of experimental design and analysis; he has touched questions which arise at many different levels of biological organization, from single molecules to cognition, often working in close collaboration with experimental groups in both physics and biology departments at Princeton and elsewhere.
